Understanding Medicare Advantage Dental Benefits

Cleanings, fillings and dentures aren't part of Original Medicare. That's where many Medicare Advantage plans come in.

Medicare Advantage plans (also called Medicare Part C) are offered by private insurers approved by Medicare. Many of them bundle in dental benefits that Original Medicare doesn't provide, covering everything from routine cleanings to restorative work like fillings and dentures. Benefits differ from plan to plan, so our team will help you understand what yours includes before any treatment begins.

Looking for a Plan With Dental Benefits?

Does your plan leave out dental? Between October 15 and December 7, you can compare plans and switch to one with dental benefits. Some life events also let you change plans outside that window.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Gentle Dental accept my Medicare Advantage plan?

Probably, but it depends on the office. Call your local Gentle Dental with your plan name and member ID and we'll confirm whether you’re in-network for our specific plan.

Does Original Medicare cover dental care?

Generally, no. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) doesn't cover most routine dental services like cleanings, fillings, or dentures. Many Medicare Advantage plans include dental benefits to help fill that gap.

When can I change my Medicare plan?

Medicare's Annual Open Enrollment Period runs from October 15 to December 7 each year. If you're already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can also switch plans between January 1 and March 31. Certain life events, such as moving, may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period.

What if I don't qualify for Medicare?

You can still get affordable care at Gentle Dental. We accept most dental insurance, and the Gentle Dental Smile Plan and financing are available if you're uninsured.

Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?

Most Medicare Advantage dental benefits don't require a referral for general dental care. Some plans do require you to see an in-network provider, so we recommend checking with your plan before your visit.

Which Medicare Advantage plans does Gentle Dental work with?

Contact your local office to confirm your specific plan is accepted.

Kaiser, SCAN, DentaQuest UHC, Humana, Alignment, Liberty Dental

Are dental implants covered under Medicare Advantage?

Usually not, though a few plans offer partial coverage. If you're considering implants, we can go over your plan, other options like dentures or bridges, and financing.

What's typically covered, and what isn't?

Most plans cover preventive care like exams, cleanings, and X-rays, along with basic restorative care such as fillings and extractions. Many also include crowns, root canals, and dentures. Implants and major oral surgery are often excluded or limited.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Please bring your Medicare Advantage member ID card, a photo ID, a list of any medications you take, and any relevant medical or dental history. If you wear dentures or partials, bring those as well.

What if my plan doesn't cover the treatment I need?

You'll know before treatment starts. We'll lay out your options, including financing, so you can decide what works for you.
